This was a difficult studio to let go of... those were the days. Now I make my work in a 10'x`12' shed...

Bells and Whistles
4.5" x 45" Neon and Found Objects March 2010
(there are details of this pi
ece HERE)

After quite a long sabattical on making art for consumption and display, I returned to the workshop to create a series
for exhibition for a show called "Oakland Under $100". The show would feature a series of work by 10 artists. All artwork is to be
priced under $100 thus bringing local affordable art into the homes of your every day people.

Given the focus of the show, I created a series called "Objects from and Artist's studio". These pieces contain objects
that had lived in my studio for years and not yet made their way into sculptures. Bottles, scraps of canvas, old paint, matches,
wire, carpet nails, children's blocks, scraps of wood. This series not only focuses on leveraging objects that have been stored and
transported for years, but also on the topic of "Change". Enjoy.

Gloves

Raging Baby Hormones #5
7" x 6" Found Objects September 2001

Fifth in a series of six embracing the consuming thoughts of childbearing. These mason jars

illuminate with natural light a earthy orange color.

Women's size 8 Steel corset and aluminum wire mesh October 1999

Preserves
Glass preserve jars filled plastic fruit that floats above water.

Spin the Bottle
2' x 3' Found Objects and Acrylic on Canvas. February 1999

Names of famous alleged mistresses surrounding a bottle that spins. Beneath are small plastic figures of
U.S. presidents above a muted painting of an American flag -- in response to the Monica Lewinsky -
Bill Clinton scandal while reflecting on the historic past of political figures and the sex scandals
sourrounding them.

Untitled
3' x 3' Found Objects and Acrylic on Canvas. January 1999

Signature Loop
32" x 44" Acrylic on Canvas. March 1998

Signatures in the shape of the infinity symbol. A piece focusing on the absurdities of the corporate environment/process.

HUG
2’ x 3’ x 18" Enamel/Assemblage on Canvas. March 1998

Plaster arms affixed to a predominantly monochome canvas. A piece respresenting my excitement
in returning to art after abandoning a career in corporate America.

The Daily Wipe
7" x 5" x 5" Found Objects. February 1998

A response to the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky media circus.

Keith Haring*
5' x 5'’ Acrylic on Canvas. January 1998

Jasper Johns*
4’ x 4’ Acrylic on Canvas. December 1997

Robert Rauschenberg*
40’ x 60’ Acrylic on Canvas. Acrylic/Found Objects on canvas. November 1997

*A series challenging myself to work in the styles of artists whom I admire-- an exercise
in discipline yet still challenging myself to integrate concepts of my own interests: the worldwide web,
chip technology, and technology in general.

Paint By Numbers
2’ x 3’ Acrylic on Canvas. November 1996

A callous interpretation of the United States during election time. A representation of my feelings on
how the United States loses sight of the red, white and blue. An arrogant piece recognizing how
easy it is to forget what we, as a country, stand for.

American Flag
2’x3’ Acrylic on Canvas. October 1996

An interpretation of how the ideals, morals, laws, and government of the United States, using the icon of the American flag, no longer appear to be calculated and clear to me; but rather, how they drip and bleed.

Baby Earth
2' x 2' Found Objects. May 1996

The heads, arms and legs of two dolls attached to two globes. This piece was born from working in an environmental consulting firm for five months, where I began to look at how society treats the earth. The image is a dual statement about the children of our world and the earth. Ultimately, the individual will make their own decisions. Shall I nurture and coddle my earth/baby or shall I neglect and abuse them? Either way, in the future we shall live with the consequences of the choices that we make today.

Cultivated Woman
2' x 5' x 2' Found Objects. September 1995

A mannequin holding a globe in her hand, mounted in a planter box with live plants. This piece represents how society is capable of cultivating women, but it shows the victory of women in that even planted in a small environment, this woman holds the world in her hand. (This piece is shown here without the live plants.)

Bed of Roses
14" x 16" x 2" Found Objects. May 1995

A wooden frame containing cigarette butts and dried roses surrounding a tiny aluminum globe. The mere juxtaposition of the roses vs. the cigarette butts, causes for an abrasive experience aroumatically, visually and conceptually. In the midst of these opposing aspects, the world is diminished to an inconsequential size, representing how society can
lose sight of what's important.

High Explosives
18" x 12" x 11" Found Objects. April 1994

An ammunition box that contains mouse traps glued to the interior walls, with a mirror on the bottom. Each live mousetrap is labeled with text; "explosive" ideas like: rape, malice, greed, vanity, indifference, war, etc. The viewer's reflection is hindered by the mousetraps until one of the traps goes off, causing the mousetrap to fly out of the box. This piece represents how when one experiences any of these extremes, they are able to see themselves more clearly and only when all of the mousetraps have gone off can one truly understand themselves and society.

Get To Know Me
10" x 10" x 7" Found Objects. March 1994

A self portrait using small children's toys contained in a steel box. Without invitation, the piece is intended to challenge the viewer to open the box to discover it's contents. In a gallery this forces the viewer to touch the piece, which is considered to be, by some, unacceptable. The piece parallels the simple cliché, "In order to get to know me, you need to open me up."

That Soft Place
18" x 16" x 6" Found Objects. June 1993

A fruit crate containing children's toys and three clocks, mounted in foam and painted white. This piece was conceived upon finding some children's toys from my youth. The clocks represent a past, a present, and a future time. Clocks that are old, yet still keep time. The foam represents a safe, soft place to hold the toys, or memories of childhood. The entire piece is painted white to represent how, although each toy is a reminder of a specific time, experiences recalled from youth are never as vivid years later.

Lifetime 1, 2, 3, 4
3' x 6' Acrylic on Canvas. May, August, October, and November 1993
Four paintings that represent four different times in my life during a crisis and it's ultimate resolution.

Integration
16" x 16" x 9" Ceramic and Concrete. April 1991

A ceramic disc, constantly expanding and contracting to temperature, surrounded by concrete that is constantly shrinking. This piece was intended to challenge myself to incorporate two materials with differing personalities, destructive personalities, to work together in one piece, paralleling society and social differences and how they can act symbiotically. This piece is an experiment of time to see if one day the disc will crack.

Sitting On Time
2' x 3' x 2' Found Objects. March 1991

A school clock mounted in the seat of a folding chair. A piece that represents the guilt derived from not actively doing. A reminder of time and deterrent to sit, but time can sit there. (This piece is shown mounted on the wall.)

Steel Rectangle
3.5' x 2.5' x 2' Steel. February 1990

This piece is a steel rectangle that has been cut and bent. It is intended to represent how things appear to be more complicated than they really are.

Exploding Time
11" x 11" Found Objects. October 1989

A school clock and miscellaneous electronic objects. My first found object sculpture. This piece embodies how little time there is to experience, understand, and enjoy all that life has to offer and all that one wishes to obtain.
